Steps to Engagement

“With billions of users online: if you’re not engaged in social media, you’re not going anywhere.”

As a company, you need to be amongst your audience, in order to grow your reach. If you are in direct sales, you go where they are. If you are starting up a new pizza place in town, you go to the center of town and hand out samples to people as they walk by. If you have any intention of scaling and growing your business, then you must focus your efforts at reaching people right where they are at.

Where are my people? They are online. Every single one of them is online. Sure, that may be an exaggeration, but for the most part, like 99.999999999% of the people you intend to reach, they are online. They are on Facebook, Instagram, Yelp, Twitter, etc… They live trails wherever they go, pumping up or shooting down local businesses, hangouts and hotspots, and can hold significant sway over the crowd you wish to attract.

What can you do? You can meet them where they are at (seems like we already said that :). Get online, and make a huge splash. Have a responsive website that works across multiple platforms. Get on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Yelp, and maintain a constant presence. Not because you know you need to be there, but you know your people are there, and you love them!

How can I make it work for us? Follow these few simple steps:

  1. Make your presence known.
  2. Engage your audience multiple times a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  3. Follow other people (not like a stalker, but as a friend).
  4. When someone likes or replies, do the same back.
  5. Engage first.

If you can follow these simple steps, then you will not online be online amongst your people, you will be doing it effectively, and everyone will benefit because of it.
