Is Your Church Missing These?

“Your website is the digital from door for your audience. Make it easy for them to walk through.”

While you’re making it easy for them to walk through, you might want to take a look at your website and make sure it has everything it needs. You see, we work with dozens of clients on a weekly basis on their web presence and we’ve recognized a faulty pattern in about a third of their websites. While they look and feel good, they aren’t working well, and it is typically a result of these three missing pieces:

  1. They are missing an about page. A church that is bringing the “wow” factor is a church that is bringing the “how” factor. You can have all the flash in the world, but if you are failing to communicate the why, what, and how or your church, you are missing the whole reason people are coming to your website: to find out more about you.
  2. They are missing “next steps”. A well thought out webpage that has the flash and shares their story well, will also give people a simple way to take their next step forward. Don’t think this has to be limited to a single page. Instead, think of creating multiple entry points for the scope of your audience. This can be clear links to upcoming events, your online messages page, a well thought out contact page, or the most overlooked page or link: how to get to the next event.
  3. They are singular in focus. Don’t forget about your team. While the analytics say that 70% are clicking on your about page, a large majority of them are also clicking on your team page. What does this mean? It means people want to connect with both your story, and the story of your team. People care about people. Make your team’s story just as compelling as your church’s story.

Take a minute and grade yourself. How are you doing with these key web presence elements? If you are missing any one of these three pieces, you are failing to meet the needs of your online community at hand. But it doesn’t have to end there. We start and end with the church in mind, and because of that, we want to help you share your story better. Start today on your own and fix these mistakes. And if you find yourself needing some help, let us know and we can help you dial things in.
