Using Video as a Reminder

We’ve written about leveraging video in ministries before, like our post on the value of video and how to make video announcements that work. Today is like that, but also different. It’s the same because we are talking about video, but also different because it’s about a different way to use video across your social media content calendar as well as in your groups throughout the week.

Today, it’s all about the video recap. For Catalyst Church, the church plant in San Diego we are all a part of, this video is all about boiling down the content from a Sunday morning, in order to create engagement points throughout the week.

Here’s what happens when we do a video reminder:

  • It allows our community who wasn’t present to feel like they were.
  • It allows our community who was there to remember the core of the message.
  • It allows all our community to know what’s going on.

For sure, this list can expand. But in order to be effective in creating a basic script for your video reminder, you need to keep it simple. The more steps you add, the less engagement you will have.

Let’s put it another way.

When we do a video reminder:

  • Everyone knows they’re a part of the community.
  • Everyone knows what the Sunday was about.
  • Everyone knows what’s on tap.

When you do this effectively, you create a built-in process for people taking next steps. If they’re watching the video online, then they’ll check out the links that are integrated within the video. If they’re watching in their groups, they’ll discuss it as a group, thus promoting more engagement and follow through.

If you don’t do anything, then you can’t expect anything. If you want your church to engage more throughout the week, then you need to give them more opportunities to do so. When you create video reminders on a weekly basis, you are creating more natural on-ramps for people to engage in your ministry and take that next step.
